J. R. R Tolkien - The Hobbit
The Hobbit is set in Middle-earth and follows home-loving Bilbo Baggins, who joins the wizard Gandalf and the thirteen dwarves or Thorin's Company, on a quest to reclaim the dwarves' home and treasure from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo's journey takes him from his peaceful rural surroundings into more sinister territory.
Tim O'Brien - The Things They Carried
A masterful collection of linked short stories by American novelist Tim O'Brien, about a platoon of American soldiers fighting on the ground in the Vietnam War.
